St Joseph of Arimathea .... A early piece of naive / folkart /art-populaire oak sculpture. full polychrome throughout. 
                                      here dressed in a green tunic secured by a leather belt wearing a hat with a beard holding in is left hand a crown of thorns. He was a wealthy jewish man and a disciple  of jesus, we was responsible for burying the body of jesus after the crucifixtion in a unmarked tomb. The Glstonbury Legend.........He came to England and was the first person to bring Christianity to Britian and was  behind the building of Britians first church. The mythical Holy Grail was also bought over by Joseph where legend has it he buried in a well in Glastonbury now named Chailce Wells , he also went on to found Glastonbury Abbey . He died in England aged 83.
