English Nottingham alabaster relief of St John the evangelist.The headless figure dressed
in a simple full length gown tied off at the midriff , with deep folds running down the front of the
gown.Left hand holds a book,the surface to the top of the book shows heavy serrated cut marks
where probably his eagle symbol once was pirched , his right hand clasps remnants of a palm . Old traces of the green daisy grass evident at the bottom of the figure with red & blue traces of polychrome
showing in places . The alabaster has typical pinkish translucent tones which is typical of
regional Nottingham alabaster. Height 14" 35.5 cm.
