Incredibily Scarce Oak Saint which pre dates the dissoulution of the monasteries England
  Possibly St Anthony  shown here with his tonsure hair style ,with excentuated stylised bulging eyes a elongated pronounced face and reserved expression . His V shaped beard resting down to his chest. holding a book
in his left hand, rigid  vertical folds to his garment  a franciscan knotted central cord. St Anthony was a Franciscan saint . The back of Saint Anthony which has been left completely flat , probably postioned as a monastery alterpiece. Religious secular pieces like this
one are practically none existent due to the  destruction of the monasteries in the 1500s
and also throughout the later centuries.
